Łukasz Fabiański: We're disappointed and that shows how far we've come

Łukasz Fabiański believes West Ham United's frustration at letting their lead slip against Arsenal was a sign of their mentality shift this season.

The Hammers goalkeeper and his teammates were bitterly disappointed to leave the London Stadium pitch on Sunday afternoon with just a single Premier League point, having led 3-0 a little over half-an-hour into the game.

Goals from Jesse Lingard, Jarrod Bowen and Tomáš Souček gave the hosts that position of strength, only for Arsenal to come roaring back to claim a share of the spoils, with West Ham scoring two unfortunate own-goals to aid the Gunners' cause.

Fabiański conceded his team had retreated into their shell having established their lead, but says they will learn from the experience as they turn onto the season's finishing straight.

We want to keep on pushing to have a really strong end to the season and finish as high as we can

"The season so far has been really good and that we are disappointed with drawing against Arsenal at home shows you how far we've come compared with what happened to us last season," he explained.

"We're not happy with the result. Obviously we started so well in the first half and really dominated the first 20 to 30 minutes.

"Then, maybe we felt confident with being 3-0 up that we weren't going to get anything against us, but Arsenal really started to pick it up. They started to get the rhythm going and we got punished on a few occasions.

"We sat back too deep and let them control the game too much [after we went 3-0 up].

"We have improved a lot and we want to keep on pushing really strong to the end of the season, keep performing and getting a good amount of points on the board. We want to finish as high as we can."

Fabiański now heads off on international duty with Poland, where he kicks-off 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying with ties against Hungary, Andorra and England.

Poland are seeking to qualify for their second World Cup finals in succession, having reached the group stage at Russia 2018, and the ninth in their history.

The 35-year-old, who signed a one-year contract extension earlier in March, will then return to Rush Green to prepare for West Ham's 30th match of the Premier League season away at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Easter Monday 5 April.
