Nigel Reo-Coker’s 90th-minute goal sealed a dramatic 2-1 victory over Wigan Athletic in the Premier League on this day in 2006.
The hosts took the lead on the stroke of half-time through Lee McCulloch’s superb drive from distance that left Shaka Hislop with little chance.
Going behind seemingly sparked the Hammers into life after play resumed and Marlon Harewood duly levelled in the 52nd minute, after capitalising on a weak defensive header from Paul Scharner. Harewood raced onto the loose ball and rounded Mike Pollitt in the Latics goal for the easiest of finishes, putting Alan Pardew’s side firmly back in the contest.
Despite the efforts of both sets of players, a draw looked the most likely result as time began to run out at the JJB Stadium.
With mere moments left of the game, however, Teddy Sheringham fired a low cross into the box and Irons skipper Nigel Reo-Coker turned his low strike past Pollitt to stun Wigan and steal the victory.
