West Ham United Women's Zaneta Wyne grateful to be back in WSL

One of West Ham United Women’s summer signings will be hoping to make her return to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League when the Hammers take on Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon.

American defender, Zaneta Wyne signed for the Hammers in June as one of the first of Olli Harder’s eleven summer signings. The 31-year-old played in a Sunderland side that finished in 7th place in the top division back in 2017, with Wyne playing in all of the teams 18 matches.

And now Wyne is looking forward to kicking off the new campaign in the Claret & Blue of West Ham United.

“I’m very excited," Wyne told whufc.com. "We’ve had a long pre-season so it’s nice to be at the start of the season. It’s going to be a good year, especially with the coverage that we’re going to have from Sky Sports and BBC covering our matches. My overall feeling is that I’m grateful to be back in the WSL, but also really happy.

“The competition in this league is top class, so it’s so exciting to be a part of that competition and to compete in this division.”

The Hammers have been working hard in pre-season to be ready for this opening day contest against the Seagulls, and the American is looking forward to putting that work to the test.

“There’s been a lot of hard working going on during pre-season to make sure that we’re ready to go against Brighton. We’ve done a lot of self and team analysis, so we’ve really been able to put the time we’ve had to good use. Hopefully we can showcase all the things that we’ve been working on during pre-season on Sunday and pick up three points.

“The opening day of the season almost has that cup game feel, everybody’s still trying to suss each other out from their pre-season results.”

Wyne is also looking forward to the experience of playing at the Amex Stadium on Sunday afternoon, as well as the returning West Ham United faithful.

“As a female player who has been playing for a while, it’s unheard of to be playing at a men’s professional ground – it’s incredibly exciting. Likewise, having the fans returning will give us all a massive boost and we’re really looking forward to showcasing what we’ve been working on throughout the summer."

You can watch the Hammers in action at the Amex Stadium on the FA Player.
