Harrison Ashby for Scotland

Ashby and Hegyi receive U21s international call-ups

Academy duo Harrison Ashby and Krisztián Hegyi have been called up to the Scotland U21s and Hungary U21s for their respective UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying fixtures.

Ashby, who has represented Scotland U21s on four occasions since his first outing for the side in October 2020, will link up with his international teammates for qualifiers away to Belgium and Denmark next month.

The Scots will travel to play against the unbeaten Belgium on Sunday 5 June, before making the trip to the Vejle Stadion, in Vejle, to take on Denmark five days later.

Ashby and his international colleagues sit fourth in Group I, having collected five points from six games played. The team can still mathematically qualify for the play-offs, which would be secured with a second-placed finish.

Hegyi, meanwhile, will join up with his Hungarian international teammates for their final two qualifying fixtures, away to Germany and Latvia in Group B.

Hungary U21s will take on the Germans on Friday 3 June before a final group match away to Latvia on Tuesday 7 June.

Hegyi and Hungary can, like the Scots, still qualify for the UEFA European U21 Championship via the play-offs but would need to secure maximum points from the final two games and hope other results go their way.

Hungary sit fourth in Group B on 11 points from eight games played. Hegyi, meanwhile, has played in all eight of these qualifying matches.

Both goalkeeper Hegyi and full-back Ashby were crucial components of West Ham United U23s progressive 2021/22 campaign. Hegyi featured in 30 development games in all competitions this season, while Ashby played in 29, scoring five goals.
