Ben Johnson & Ajibola Alese receive England call-ups

Ben Johnson and Ajibola Alese have both received call-ups to represent the England national team at age-group level.

Johnson, who has featured 24 times in all competitions for David Moyes’ first-team this season and is closing in on 50 senior appearances, sees his fine form for West Ham United this campaign earn him a first call up to the England U21s.

The 2020/21 Young Hammer of the Year will link up with Lee Carsley’s squad for two upcoming UEFA European U21 Championship qualifiers.

The U21s are set to take on Andorra at AFC Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium on Friday 25 March before travelling to the Elbasan Arena to face Albania away from home on Tuesday 29 March.

West Ham's development team captain Alese, meanwhile, has secured a call up to the England U20s squad for the upcoming international window.

The centre-back will be hoping to be involved in Andy Edwards' team for matches away to Poland at the Stadion Miejski Bielsko-Biała on Friday 25 March and home to Germany at Colchester United’s Jobserve Community Stadium on Tuesday 29 March.

Alese has previously represented England at every level from U16s upwards, and made his U20s debut in October 2020 in a friendly fixture against Wales, helping the Young Lions to a 2-0 win.

Elsewhere, Sonny Perkins and Divin Mubama have been named in the England U18s squad. The two young forwards will link up with the young international side for friendlies against Switzerland on Friday 25 March and Denmark on Monday 28 March.

Everyone at West Ham United congratulates Ben, Aji, Sonny and Divin on their respective England call-ups and wish them every success during the international window.
