Pre-season Match, Chigwell Construction Stadium, Saturday 30 July 2022, 3.00pm

When & Where etc...

West Ham United U21s will close out their pre-season schedule with a final outing against local opponents Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday afternoon.

The young Hammers will get their last opportunity to impress during pre-season at the Chigwell Construction Stadium, ahead of the start of the 2022/23 Premier League 2 campaign next weekend.

Results-wise, pre-season has been a mixed bag for Mark Robson’s U21s, who suffered a late defeat in Portugal against Sporting CP in their opening summer fixture and were also beaten last time out by Stevenage at Rush Green.

In between, however, the youngsters claimed an impressive 2-1 win away to Ebbsfleet United and also saw off AFC Bournemouth’s developmental side 3-0 at the Canford Arena.

The Irons’ fixture against Dagenham & Redbridge will kick-off at 3.00pm on Saturday 30 July.

Team News...

Saturday represents a busy day of action for West Ham United as the senior side, U21s and U18s all get set for their final pre-season matches.

A host of U21s talent have been involved in David Moyes' first-team throughout pre-season with Harrison Ashby and Conor Coventry featuring in the most recent fixture; the 1-1 draw away to Luton Town. Nathan Trott, Jamal Baptiste, Armstrong Okoflex and Divin Mubama were also among the substitutes.

The players available to Mark Robson will depend on who manager Moyes wishes to take a final look at before the start of the Premier League campaign.

Fans can anticipate the seven youngsters who signed professional deals over the summer – Archie Woods, Michael Forbes, Jacob Knightbridge, Junior Robinson, Regan Clayton, George Earthy and Kaelen Casey – being involved in some capacity, should they not be called up to the senior side.

Opposition...

Formed in 1992 through a merger of Dagenham and Redbridge Forest, the latter merged from Ilford, Leytonstone and Walthamstow Avenue, Dagenham & Redbrdge recently celebrated their 30th birthday.

The Daggers currently play in the Vanarama National League, having been in the fifth tier of the English football system since the 2016/17 campagn. Prior to that, the team had spent nine seasons in the English Football League, the height of which saw Dagenham & Redbridge in League One for the 2010/11 season.

Overall, the club has experienced three promotions and two relegations in its history, and finished eighth in the Vanarama National League last season.

The side is managed by Daryl McMahon, a former West Ham United Academy youngster who went on to play for the likes of Port Vale, Torquay United, Leyton Orient and Boreham Wood. McMahon took charge of the side in January 2020, after a spell as manager of Macclesfield Town, and guided the side to within a point of the play-offs last season.
