Dagný Brynjarsdóttir was delighted that West Ham United were able to score three against Everton, in what was a superb victory in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
Goals from Katerina Svitkova, Brynjarsdóttir and Claudia Walker secured the win, which see’s the Hammers climb to seventh in the FA WSL table.
And the midfielder was pleased to be back to winning ways with solid performance at the Chigwell Construction Stadium on Sunday.
“I think it was a great team performance all over the field,” Brynjarsdóttir told West Ham TV. “The offence was good, and I think we did well with keeping the ball and winning first and second balls. It was a great team performance.
“We didn't create that many chances, but we finished the chances that we had, and that's the most thing important thing. And yeah, I think they had maybe one shot on goal with where Anna made a great save. The defence was great, and Anna was ready to step-in.”
This was Brynjarsdóttir's third goal of the season, having scored against Manchester City and Tottenham - but the midfielder knows that perhaps she should have had more with the chances that have come her way.
“I still think could have more goals. I've had some chances, but I think that three goals for midfielder is pretty decent at this stage. But I also think I should have had more. I know, I've missed a few chances earlier in the season, but hopefully now I'll be finishing them. But yes, I'm happy with the three goals so far.”
The Hammers weathered an Everton storm in the opening ten minutes – with the away side twice hitting the bar, but after Svitkova had bundled the ball into the net just before the break, the Hammers were dominant thereafter.
Scoring either side of half-time helped set the tone, and Walkers’ strike towards the end was the icing on the cake, and Brynjarsdóttir was pleased to see the goals flowing from all over the pitch.
“We don't really have to count on one player to get all the goals and they're coming from all over the pitch. That's a big strength, because when one player is not maybe having their day and not finishing the chances, someone else is there to step-up."
The Hammers now prepare to face Chelsea, only one week after being on the receiving end of a 4-2 defeat in the Continental Tyres League Cup.
But the Icelandic midfielder insists that her side will be ready to face the WSL League Champions.
“I think we'll be ready, it's a good confidence boost to have a clean sheet, score three goals here, but obviously on Wednesday will be our new game. Chelsea have a great team, obviously we have to bring our A game if we want anything out of the game.
We'll just need to take out of the game everything that we did well tonight and fix what needs to be fixed and be better. We want to recover and feel as fresh as possible.”
Olli Harder's side will now travel to Kingsmeadow to face Chelsea, in a rescheduled WSL clash that was postponed just before Christmas.
