Dagný Brynjarsdóttir named in Iceland squad for UEFA Women's EURO 2022

Dagný Brynjarsdóttir has been named in the Iceland squad for this summer’s 2022 UEFA European Women's Football Championship.

Brynjarsdóttir recently extended her contract with West Ham United after a solid 2021/22 campaign which saw her finish as the Clubs joint top goalscorer in all competitions – finding the back of the net on six occasions.

The midfielder recently celebrated a major milestone on the international stage, reaching 100 caps for Iceland in a 5-1 win over Belarus back in April.

Brynjarsdóttir first featured for Iceland in a major competition nine years ago at Euro 2013, which was hosted in Sweden. This will be the third European Championship finals that she will be representing her country in.

Euro 2022 is being held in England and will kick-off on Wednesday 6 July, when the host nation take on Austria at Old Trafford.

Iceland will take on Belgium, France and Italy in Group D, with their matches taking place at the Academy Stadium, home of Barclays Women’s Super League side, Manchester City, and the New York Stadium, newly-promoted EFL Championship club Rotherham United's home ground.

This means that Brynjarsdóttir could face off against her Club teammate, Hawa Cissoko in the final group-stage fixture on Monday 18 July.

Iceland will be hoping to put in a good showing against three very strong opponents in Group D.
