David Moyes: We got the job done and we’re pleased with the win

West Ham United recorded a fourth straight win in all competitions by defeating Norwich City 2-0 at London Stadium on Wednesday night and manager David Moyes was pleased with his team’s professional attitude.

The Hammers moved back into the Premier League’s top four by seeing off the bottom-placed Canaries, with Jarrod Bowen scoring a goal at the end of each half.

While Moyes felt his team could have scored further goals to finish the contest earlier, with Bowen being denied by Tim Krul inside two minutes, twice hitting the woodwork and seeing another effort ruled out for offside, he was nevertheless happy to claim another hard-fought three-point haul.

We’re pleased with the win tonight.

It wasn’t easy and we warned the players the game had to be treated in the same fashion as any other, and I thought we went about the job really well.

We created chances from the start, but didn’t do quite as well in the final third when we got the opportunities, but in the end we got the job done and it’s a good, professional win.

I’m happy that Jarrod got his goals too.

I didn’t think he played so well in the first half tonight. The goalkeeper makes a save from him in the first minute when maybe he could have scored, and he could have finished the game a bit earlier for us.

He hit the bar when we were 1-0 up with a chip, but look, he’s doing great and the goals will give him great confidence.

He’s probably been a little bit behind with his goals this season – his assists have been good, but if we can get him in the goals in the second half of the season that will be really important for us.

The clean sheet was important and Łukasz’s save [at 1-0 from Adam Idah] was really important too.

I didn’t feel we were hugely under pressure in the game, but it could have just taken a moment for us to concede a goal and then we’d be chasing the game again.

For the most part we controlled it and keeping clean sheets is important because you can’t win all the games by scoring three or four goals.

There will be tight games; we had a tight game here on Sunday against Leeds United and tonight was a tight game in that we didn’t score the goals we maybe should have, so you have to make sure we don’t concede any.

We’ve had a tough schedule but the players keep on giving their all.

We had to treat it the same as if we were playing Liverpool or Chelsea. You get three points for winning the game and we had to get three points.

In truth this was probably a game too much for us – we’ve had a really busy schedule and we felt this was pushed upon us. But we got the three points, so we’ll move on and we’ll take it.

We’ll get the team ready to go again on Sunday and that’s the hard bit, isn’t it, when you’ve got a lot of players who have played games, people who have COVID, and players who are injured. So to ask them to keep doing it in the way there are is difficult, but we’ll keep giving it the best we can and hopefully keep getting the wins. We want to keep that going.
