Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, presented by Heineken...
Carlton Cole finished a superb team move with an excellent finish to earn West Ham United a 1-0 victory in the Premier League away to Wigan Athletic on this day in 2009.
Cole struck first-time from just inside the penalty area on 34 minutes, bending home past Chris Kirkland for goal number eleven of the 2008/09 campaign so far.
The England striker's effort completed a terrific team effort which saw Scott Parker, Mark Noble and David di Michele all involved in an intricate one-touch move, culminating in Cole receiving a pass from the Italian before netting the only goal of the game.
Cole's evening would only last another three minutes, with the striker dismissed for a second yellow card on 37 minutes; a decision then-Wigan Athletic manager Steve Bruce even admitted he did not agree with.
Wigan themselves would have Lee Cattermole sent off in a fiery fixture as the Hammers claimed all three points under the guidance of Gianfranco Zola.
The Irons would go on to finish ninth in the Premier League table that season, with 51 points.
