George Lawrence will never forget West Ham United’s UEFA Europa Conference League Group B win over RSC Anderlecht at London Stadium.
For the lifelong fan and his family were special guests of Łukasz Fabiański, watching the Irons’ 2-1 victory from the goalkeeper’s box and meeting the No1 after the final whistle.
George was diagnosed with the life-limiting condition Hypoplastic left heart syndrome, for which he receives extensive treatment. Also known as palliative heart failure, the condition restricts George’s mobility, meaning he can only walk very short distances, and requires support from his mother Jo, younger sister Sophie, 20, and brothers Charlie, 22, Alfie, 18.
When he learnt that George’s dream was to attend a Hammers match in person, Fabiański invited the family to the Anderlecht fixture, where he cheered on as goals from Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen secured a welcome home win.
The visit was organised in conjunction with the Willow Foundation, the charity founded by former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson following the death of his daughter Anna of cancer at the age of 31, which provides Special Days for seriously ill 16 to 40-year-olds.
West Ham TV was on hand to capture an evening that, thanks to our No1 and the Willow Foundation, neither George nor his family will ever forget.
