Favour Fawunmi scored the winning goal as West Ham United U18s battled back to beat Fulham U18s 3-2 on Saturday.
The young Hammers were awarded the U18s Premier League South trophy at the Rush Green Stadium, five days after lifting the FA Youth Cup.
The Cottagers took an early lead courtesy of Aaron Loupalo-Bi, but Callum Marshall’s brace saw the Irons take the lead before the interval.
Chibuzo Nwoko found an equaliser after the break before Fawunmi’s late strike sealed the three points for Kevin Keen’s side.
Fawunmi was delighted to help the team with a goal.
“It was all about perseverance,” he told whufc.com. “I missed a couple of chances earlier on in the match but I was determined to keep going. On another day I could have had four or five but I didn’t let it impact me.
“As soon as Blaise [Uwandji] got on the ball I made a run and thankfully he found me. I managed to score and it was really good to help the team with a goal.”
The 17-year-old was delighted to get his hands on more silverware after a superb season.
“It has been a great season for us,” he reflected. “We have worked hard all season and we have built a winning mentality. The coaches have been fantastic and they drive us on every week. We demonstrated the right mentality again today and it was great to collect the trophy to cap off a great week.
“We knew that the league was already won but we still had a job to do and we wanted to finish with a win. We didn’t start very well and we knew that we needed to be better. Today’s game was a representation of our season though, we are relentless and we will always back ourselves to score more than the opposition.”
The Irons will travel to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City on May 10, with the ambition of becoming national champions.
Fawunmi is targeting a third trophy of the season with the young Hammers.
“We still have one more trophy to try and win. We will keep our heads down and we will look ahead to the Man City game. We will continue to push, continue to be relentless and hopefully we can top off an already brilliant season with another trophy.”
