West Ham United men’s first team stars Declan Rice, Łukasz Fabiański and Thilo Kehrer showed their backing for Care Day 2023 by helping to give two young people with care experience the ultimate matchday experience at London Stadium.
Brothers Leo and Reece were given a behind the scenes tour of the Hammers’ home, walking through the players’ entrance, before being greeted by the trio of players in the dressing rooms.
Then, having walked out of the tunnel to the pitch, they were surprised with tickets to the Hammers’ home Premier League game against Nottingham Forest later in February.
Care Day is the world’s biggest celebration of children and young people with care experience, and is a joint initiative between five children’s rights charities across the U.K. and Ireland, under the 5 Nations 1 Voice alliance.
The alliance wants a world where the childhoods of these children and young people allow them to thrive and achieve their dreams so that they go onto have a future that is fulfilled, and they are proud of.
West Ham United Foundation offers support to children in care and care experienced young people and as part of this work both Reece and Leo have received mentoring assistance from West Ham United Foundation CEO Joseph Lyons, Leo has also volunteered as a coach at the Foundation’s Premier League Kicks programme.
