West Ham United U21s fell to a disappointing 3-1 defeat at home to Blackburn Rovers U21s in Premier League 2 on Saturday.

A highly competitive contest at Rush Green Stadium saw both sides go close to breaking the deadlock, but Blackburn would find two goals in quick succession to storm into the advantage.

Kaelan Casey's misplaced pass gave Rovers the opportunity to score on 35 minutes, which George Gent gratefully latched onto, before the visitor's high-press led to an unfortunate own goal from Keenan Appiah-Forson just two minutes later.

A sweeping move after half-time gave the Irons hope of a fightback. Kamarai Swyer sprinted with the ball and found Divin Mubama with a cut-back, and the striker made no mistake as he netted his 15th goal of the season at U21s level.

However, the visitors would secure all three points with a third goal late on. Sam Burns collected the ball inside the penalty area and swept it into the top corner, inflicting a loss on Mark Robson's side.
