West Ham United U23s went two points clear at the top of Premier League 2 Division 1 with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers U23s on Friday evening.
The U23s once again got off to a strong start when Kamarai Swyer snuck in to slide home Dan Chesters’ cross after 17 minutes.
But they were increasingly penned back in the second half and had the crossbar to thank - twice, on one occasion in part due to a miraculous stop from goalkeeper Brian Kinnear - for preserving such a slender advantage.
Harrison Ashby received a straight red card for the boys in Claret and Blue in the closing stages, but the Hammers held on to surpass Arsenal U23s - who lost on Friday evening - and reach the division's summit at the halfway point of the season.
