Jarrod Bowen says that West Ham United showed real spirit and togetherness to come back on two separate occasions in their 3-2 victory over Chelsea at London Stadium.
The Hammers had to show their mettle against the league leaders, fighting back after Thiago Silva and Mason Mount twice gave them the lead.
Once again, they showed that spirit and togetherness in bundles, levelling first through Manuel Lanzini’s penalty and then Bowen’s low strike.
That set the scene for Arthur Masuaku to win it in style late on, as his cross-shot flew in at the near post to give his team another huge three points.
"No, it doesn’t come much better than that," Bowen told West Ham TV at the full-time whistle.
“The atmosphere in here was electric and as players from the first minute to the last you could see the intent from us, and we got the three points to show for that.
“We kept going and grafting, we showed the real spirit and togetherness that this group has. The team came out in the second half and got the goal to get us back into it before scoring again. We dug deep at the end, but we managed to get the winner in the end.”
Bowen was a real livewire throughout the match and took his goal well. Michail Antonio initially did well to win the battle against Andreas Christensen, laying the ball off to Vladimír Coufal - who then found the 24-year-old who clinically dispatched his shot beyond Édouard Mendy.
And Bowen was pleased that he caught the ball so sweetly and found himself amongst the goals again.
“It was nice to catch the ball so sweetly and to have it go through the defenders legs and fly into the back of the net was perfect.
“I’ve been disappointed recently because I’ve missed a couple of chances in recent weeks, but it was pleasing to be back on the scoresheet.”
It was another statement from West Ham United that their charge on the top four is very much a real threat. It was not the first big scalp of the season either, with Saturday’s win against Chelsea adding to the growing collection of wins against top sides this campaign.
The attacker was quick to draw attention to the abundance of quality within the Irons’ squad at the moment and also highlighted how the team want to make a habit of securing wins against top sides.
“We’ve had three goals against Liverpool and Chelsea now – which shows that there’s goals in this team. As well as that, it shows the quality that we have in the squad, and that came to the forefront in the end.
“We haven’t been at our usual levels in the last couple of matches, sometimes that happens over the course of the season, but today was a great opportunity for us to bounce back and test ourselves against one of the best teams in the world, and we’ve done that and got the victory.
“Beating these top teams is what we want to keep doing and make a habit out of doing. We’re doing well in Europe and in the Carabao Cup as well, so there’s a lot of games coming up and we want to keep that momentum going with top performances.”
