Loan Watch: Coventry maintains unbeaten start at Rotherham

Conor Coventry battled to a valiant point against Blackpool in the EFL Championship this weekend, maintaining his unbeaten start while on loan at Rotherham United.

The Academy of Football graduate joined Matt Taylor's Millers on loan for the remainder of the 2022/23 season in January, with West Ham United exercising an option to extend his contract by 12 months ahead of his move to South Yorkshire.

In his first two fixtures at Rotherham, Coventry has seen consecutive goalless draws in the English second-tier, featuring for 90 minutes against second-placed Sheffield United and Blackpool. The match against the latter also saw former Hammer Jordan Hugill start for Rotherham for the first time.

Rotherham, who are unbeaten in their last three fixtures, sit 20th in the table and are four points clear of the Championship relegation places.

In Italy, Nikola Vlašić and Torino fell to a 1-0 defeat to AC Milan in Serie A. Former Chelsea and Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, who scored six goals in 15 appearances against the Irons, netted the winner just past the hour.

At San Siro, Vlašić was unable to add to his six league goal contributions in 2022/23, although Torino sits seventh in the table, with seven points from their last five matches.

Elsewhere, defeat was also unavoidable for young goalkeeper Jacob Knightsbridge, who was part of the U21s matchday squad on Friday in a 1-0 win over Fulham, but fell to a 2-0 loss on Saturday afternoon.

His side, Harrow Borough, was beaten by bottom-of-the-table North Leigh, and sits 19th in the Non-League Premier, with one victory in their last five games.

With three league goals to his name this season, Mipo Odubeko came off the bench but saw his side, Port Vale, slip to a 3-2 defeat in EFL League One.

The young striker made a late cameo, featuring in the final eight minutes, although Shrewsbury, took their sixth straight three points.

Without a victory in their last five fixtures, Port Vale are 15th in the League One table, winning ten of their 30 fixtures so far.
