Arthur Masuaku got his loan spell with Beşiktaş off to a winning start as the Turkish side claimed a 1-0 Süper Lig victory over Kayserispor.
The DR Congo international started at left-back for the Siyah Beyazlılar on Saturday as they kicked off their 2022/23 campaign at home to Kayserispor, in a match Beşiktaş dominated.
With 20 shots to their opponents six, the home side seemed certain to claim all three points but had to wait until the sixth minute of added time at the end of the second half to get the all-important goal, as Rachid Ghezzal cleverly netted with a first-time, left-footed finish from the edge of the area.
Both sides had been reduced to ten men earlier in the fixture with Kayserispor seeing Ali Karimi given a red card on 67 minutes, while Beşiktaş had former Everton striker Cenk Tosun dismissed on 90+3 minutes.
Masuaku played the full 90 minutes for the home side on his debut, helping the team to keep a clean-sheet in his first outing since joining from West Ham United on loan.
Elsewhere, Jacob Knightbridge also made his debut for Harrow Borough after his loan from the Academy, keeping a clean-sheet for the side away to Tiverton Town.
The youngster was called into action early on in the Southern League Premier Division South season-opener, tipping away two shots from the home side before showing his courageous side to dive in at the striker Morison’s feet.
A free-header, just before half-time, was well saved by the shot-stopper, who put in a mature and composed performance to keep out the south west side in his maiden showing.
