Arthur Masuaku in action during pre-season for West Ham United

Loan Watch: Masuaku & Nevers secure wins

West Ham United loanees Arthur Masuaku and Thierry Nevers were all on the winning teams for their respective sides in this weekend's round of action from across Europe.

Masuaku was in the starting XI for Beşiktaş in their 4-1 victory against Fatih Karagümrük. The Süper Lig clash saw Masuaku and his teammates take the lead on 17 minutes through former Burnley striker Wout Weghorst, with Georges-Kévin N'Koudou doubling the advantage on 34 minutes.

Hammers loanee Masuaku would then make his mark on the fixture, registering his first assist since joining Beşiktaş on a season-long loan when he set up Jackson Muleka for the team's third goal, five minutes into the second half.

Fatih Karagümrük, managed by former Italy international Andrea Pirlo, hit back through Mbaye Diagne's strike but Beşiktaş wrapped up the impressive victory with Valentin Rosier's late finish. Masuaku was substituted late on for the home team.

Beşiktaş now sit second in the Süper Lig with seven points from three games played.

Thierry Nevers of West Ham United U21s

Academy winger Nevers made his first start for Newport County after joining the EFL League Two on a season-long loan last week.

The 20-year-old helped the Exiles come from behind to secure a 2-1 win against Tranmere Rovers at Rodney Parade, with all the goals coming in the first half.

Tranmere had taken the lead through Aaron James Lewis’ own-goal on 23 minutes but the home side hit back through Nathan Moriah-Welsh just six minutes later.

The comeback was complete before half-time when Omar Bogle slotted in from the penalty spot, giving Newport their first win of the 2022/23 campaign in league action.

Nikola Vlašić also featured in the starting XI for his loan club, Torino, as they played out a stalemate at home to Lazio.

The Croatian played the full 90 minutes at the Olimipico di Torino on Saturday but neither side was able to break the deadlock, putting Torino in seventh place in Serie A after two matches played.

Finally, Academy goalkeeper Jacob Knightbridge succumbed to his first defeat since joining Harrow Borough on loan, with the Southern League Premier League South side suffering a 1-0 home loss to Hanwell Town.

The young shot-stopper was called in action a number of times, forcing Adam Lareef’s effort wide and saving Rush’s well-taken free-kick, but the away side took the late lead through full back Olorunfemi's angled finish on 81 minutes.
