Arthur Masuaku helped Beşiktaş to a memorable win over Fenerbahçe, despite his side playing the last 40 minutes of the Istanbul derby with ten men.
After former Hammer Enner Valencia gave the hosts the lead from the spot, Beşiktaş saw centre-back Welinton sent off with 51 minutes played, although Valencia missed the resulting spot-kick, having converted his first attempt from 12 yards.
Beşiktaş swung the fixture in their favour when ex-Everton forward Cenk Tosun struck a brace in four second-half minutes just around the hour mark, before goals from ex-Saints attacker Nathan Redmond and Vincent Aboubakar saw Masuaku and company moved three goals ahead.
And while İrfan Kahveci netted a second for Fenerbahçe in injury time, Beşiktaş secured a valuable win, one that keeps them third in the table, but moved them to within two points of second-placed Fenerbahçe.
Elsewhere, Academy of Football goalkeeper Brian Kinnear kept a clean sheet as Falkirk battled to secure a point in Scottish League One.
Despite dominating the game, with four shots of the target to their opponents one, Falkirk were unable to find a way past the side who sit second-bottom in the table.
They have won just one of their last five fixtures and sit eleven points off leaders Dunfermline Athletic, who they face next weekend, in second place.
Kinnear does have a Scottish Cup semi-final to look forward to this month, however, with a fixture against Championship side Inverness Caledonian Thistle set for 29 April.
Meanwhile, Conor Coventry featured as Rotherham battled with ten-man to gain a valuable point from Hull City and bolster their bid for EFL Championship survival.
The Millers saw former Hammer Domingos Quina sent off but showed a resilient mentality to take an important draw in Coventry’s tenth league straight start since moving on loan in January.
Showing quality in and out of possession, the 23-year-old has recorded one assist whilst on loan at Rotherham, helping his side to ten points since his arrival at the start of 2023.
Rotherham have won nine league matches this season, with the club two points above the relegation zone in 20th, as it stands.
