Birmingham City defeat Hull City 2-0

Loan Watch: Odubeko strikes and Longelo stars in win

A host of West Ham United loanees were involved for their respective clubs last weekend, albeit with mixed success in fixtures across the globe.

In a match that kicked off 20 minutes late as the goals were too big, Manny Longelo played the full 90 minutes and helped Birmingham City keep a clean sheet in a 2-0 EFL Championship win over Hull City on Sunday.

The Blues have now won three of their last six fixtures and are three points from the play-off places. Their latest win came thanks to a first-half penalty from Troy Deeney and Juninho Bacuna's thunderbolt from distance two minutes after the restart.

After the hour, Longelo saw his shot blocked, while Deeney also missed another chance from the spot, as Birmingham City pressed for a third that was ultimately not needed to clinch the three points.

It was a good afternoon too for Mipo Odubeko, who grabbed his second EFL League One goal for Port Vale.

Brought off the bench with 20 minutes to be played, Odubeko struck a smart volley from close range in the 78th minute, as a pulsating 2-2 draw played out with Forest Green at Vale Park.

The young striker's goal started an impressive comeback from the hosts, who trailed by two goals before Odubeko’s introduction. Darrell Clarke’s men then clinched a point thanks to an Ellis Harrison spot-kick two minutes from time.

Second-half substitutes Thierry Nevers and Dan Chesters both tasted defeat for their respective clubs. Chester's Colchester United was beaten by promotion-chasing Swindon Town in EFL League One, while Never's Newport County lost 2-1 at Crawley Town in EFL League Two.

Nikola Vlašić played ninety minutes in Serie A for Torino on Saturday, although his side fell to defeat in the Derby della Mole. Dusan Vlahovic's seventh goal of the season ultimately secured a 1-0 victory for Juventus midway through the second half.

Elsewhere, Arthur Masuaku and Besiktas battled to a 2-2 Süper Lig draw with Trabzonspor. The attacking full-back played 90 minutes, as former Everton striker Cenk Tosun secured a point for Masuaku's men 20 minutes from time.

Young goalkeeper Nathan Trott was sent-off on 18 minutes as Vejle BK were beaten 3-0 by Hobro in the Danish First Divison on Friday evening, while Armstrong Okoflex was an unused substitute as Swansea lost 4-0 to Burnley in the Championship.
