Łukasz Fabiański saw plenty of cause for optimism in West Ham United's 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.
The goalkeeper was only called upon to save one shot on target throughout the 90 minutes, Ruben Neves' long-range strike late on not really testing the 'stopper - an impressive feat in itself.
But Fabiański also utilised all his considerable strength and experience to dominate his box as Wolves pressed for an equaliser late on, claiming several high balls and set-pieces to put a halt on several passages of pressure.
The compact nature of the Hammers' defence in the game, plus their creativity in front of goal - both Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen benefitted from good opportunities, whilst Declan Rice hit the post and Tomáš Souček scored - reflected an all-round impressive performance against a fellow contender for European football in the Premier League.
And West Ham's No1 felt that the resilience his teammates demonstrated in the game will serve them well as they tackle a busy March fixture programme in the coming weeks...
I don’t think we were that frustrated in the game, in all honesty.
In our half-time talk, we were pleased with the way we performed in the first half. Obviously, we were not able to score a goal, but I think the belief was that, if we continued to play like we did in the first half, we were going to get another chance.
We managed to get one and put it away, so we’re happy with the result against a very good opponent. In general, I think we can be quite happy.
It’s something special when you score on your birthday!
The things that happen are always, in some way, written in the stars, and we’re happy that it happened to Tomáš today.
He’s a really good guy, a great player and a great person, so we’re obviously really happy that he’s playing for us.
I wasn’t that frustrated before his goal, because I’d seen that the chances were there.
It wasn’t like we only had two or three, and then after that, it stopped. We kept on creating some really good chances.
I think that was a really good sign from the game, because in recent, previous games, like against Newcastle, we struggled to create clear-cut chances. Against Wolves, we managed to create a decent amount of them, so that was a really good sign.
With the way we played, we changed our formation and I think that helped us as well. Possession of the ball, trying to play through the lines… we looked a lot better compared to the last few games, so I think that’s a very good sign.
To be honest, I think there was only one shot on target when I had to make a save.
There were some crosses to deal with. A clean sheet is always, for me personally and the team as well, nice, because you always take something away from the game, so it’s good to have.
In the first half, there was almost nothing to do. In the second half, I was happy to help and take some pressure off the team in the latter stages of the game.
The last few minutes were strange because it almost looked like I was catching crosses, kicking them away, and the ball came back straight away!
The boys gave a lot today and it was hard to keep the pressure at a high level throughout the whole game.
Luckily enough, we managed to keep a clean sheet and get a very important three points.
There are still eleven games to play and to be honest, we’re still in some very important competitions aside from the Premier League.
We’ve still got an FA Cup game [against Southampton on Wednesday, and we’ve got the UEFA Europa League coming up. What we have to do is just take each game as it comes and do our best.
We had a bit of a tricky spell recently where we didn’t play well, but we managed to pick up some points. Today, we played really well and managed to get a very important three points.
I think we’ll compete until the end, and see what’s going to happen.
It’s a scary situation in Ukraine, but we’re trying to support Andriy Yarmolenko and his family as much as we can.
It’s been very emotional for me personally as well. In some ways, I feel like I’m very close to the situation because we, as a country, try to help the Ukrainian people so much.
They are so brave, so I think the way we took a stance today… not only us, but if you look throughout the whole football world, everyone is supporting Ukraine.
I just hope it’s going to resolve in a good way, and we really wish Yarma the very best.
We’re trying to support him and help him as much as we can and I think that it was a very beautiful moment before the game. He’s got all of our support, and the whole of Ukraine do as well.
