In his first season at West Ham United, Nayef Aguerd has been recognised for his outstanding work supporting the West Ham United Foundation’s community programmes by being awarded the Players’ Project Award.
Not only has the Moroccan excelled on the pitch, but he has also embraced the responsibility that comes with being a professional footballer, using his platform to uplift and inspire others.
Don Adams, esteemed member of the Foundation’s Any Old Irons social inclusion programme, had the privilege of presenting Aguerd the trophy following the players’ lap of honour at the London Stadium.
The Players' Project Award stands as a testament to the defender's efforts in enhancing the lives of others through his involvement with the West Ham United Foundation.
Since his arrival in East London last summer, Aguerd has wholeheartedly embraced West Ham United's community spirit. He has consistently gone above and beyond to serve as a prominent role model for fans and participants alike, actively supporting the Foundation in its unwavering mission to provide life-changing opportunities to thousands of individuals throughout East London and Essex.
“The Players’ Project award encapsulates the strong role that we all have to play across the communities we serve and choosing just one player is always a really difficult decision to make,” said Foundation CEO Joseph Lyons. “That being said, since joining, Nayef has been a brilliant role model on and off the pitch and has consistently given his time to West Ham’s initiatives and causes ranging from youth voice to employability and physical activity sessions.”
Aguerd was a regular visitor to the Foundation’s community programmes, engaging with participants of all ages. By frequenting and actively participating in The Training Ground, Walking Football, Post 16 Football & Education, London Hope Hack Youth Summit and West Ham United’s community Iftar event, he has exemplified the true spirit of an ambassador, leaving a lasting impression on both the Club and its supporters.
“He has gone beyond expectations and has not only proved he understands what community means to everyone at West Ham but he continues to embody it," added Lyons. "Through his involvement with the West Ham United Foundation, he has demonstrated the immense power that sports and community engagement hold in transforming lives and fostering unity. This award is a thank you from all of us - congratulations to Nayef!”
Everyone at West Ham United and the Foundation would like to thank Nayef for his contribution and congratulate him on winning the 2022/23 Players' Project Award.
