West Ham United U21s do a morning cardio session in the pool

In Pictures: U21s make a splash in water polo session

West Ham United U21s continued their work ahead of the 2022/23 season in Portugal with another busy day.

Thursday once again saw the young Irons worked by lead coach Mark Robson, assistant coach Steve Potts and the backroom staff twice on the training pitches in roasting conditions in Troia, while a gym session for each player was held in the early afternoon.

Each morning has seen the development squad led in a cardio session, designed to get the players moving and the blood pumping, by Physical Development Coaches Ben Male and Craig Smith.

Thursday morning was no different but, instead of taking to the nearby beach for circuit training or sprints, the U21s were instead led to the facility's nearby indoor pool for a round-robin tournament of water polo!

Split into four teams, the development side's competitive nature led to an exciting and fun session for all involved.

Our photographer was on hand to capture the session, and images can be viewed in the gallery above!
