RedLac finishes in top four in St George's Trophy

West Ham United pro gamer Alfie ‘AC RedLac’ Calder warmed up for the final major Qualifier event of the FIFA 22 season with an impressive showing in SD Huesca’s St George’s Trophy invitational, finishing in the top four.

An Esports competition organised by the La Liga 2 club to mark Saint George’s Day – with the patron saint of England pivotal to the region of Aragon in Spain – the St George’s Trophy is a friendly competition now in its third season.

West Ham Gaming were one of 12 teams invited to participate in the three-day online competition, drawn in Group A alongside Bologna (Italy), Villarreal (Spain), FC Augsburg (Germany), AC Milan (Italy) and CA Osasuna (Spain).

And RedLac duly responded by topping his pool in style, winning three and drawing two of his five matches – scoring 21 goals and conceding just six – on the first day of competition.

Those results saw the 19-year-old paired with Huesca’s own competitor Jacobo ‘Chousita’ Chousa, champion of the first European Global Series major this season, in the semi-finals.

And with RedLac chasing a route back into the tie after the Spaniard showed his FIFA 22 class with a strong showing in the first leg, winning out 3-2, Huesca took full advantage of the space which opened up in the second leg to secure a 10-3 win on aggregate.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Esports went on to win the tournament, defeating Huesca in the final.

Nevertheless, RedLac’s impressive showing in seeing off a number of other top European clubs in the group stages will give the teenager and Hammers fans encouragement he can secure a similarly strong finish in the final Global Series Qualifier event, which takes place on Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 May.
