Declan Rice & Thilo Kehrer in International action

Rice and Kehrer feature in dramatic draw

Three West Ham United first team stars featured in international action during Monday's selection of UEFA Nations League fixtures, with two coming up against each other in a thrilling draw!

With England taking on Germany at Wembley Stadium on Monday evening, Hammers skipper Declan Rice and summer signing Thilo Kehrer were selected by their respective managers to play in the Group A3 outing.

Rice, on 34 caps, took his usual role in the Three Lions' midfield while Kehrer was selected at right-back by manager Hansi Flick.

A goalless first-half offered little hints of the goalscoring exploits to come in the second, when Germany took the lead through Ilkay Gundogan's penalty on 52 minutes.

Chelsea's Kai Havertz curled in a spectacular finish 15 minutes later, leaving England with a mountain to climb, but the home side claimed a goal back when Manchester United's Luke Shaw slotted home.

Mason Mount then struck a superb effort to level the fixture before captain Harry Kane completed an unlikely comeback, scoring from the penalty spot to complete a 12-minute fightback from the Three Lions.

There was still a final twist in the tale, however, as Germany pulled level three minutes before full-time. Havertz followed in Serge Gnabry's effort, which was not held by goalkeeper Nick Pope, to net his second and his side's third.

Rice and Scamacca battle as England face Italy at San Siro

Elsewhere, Gianluca Scamacca was a second-half substitute for Italy as they claimed a 2-0 win away to Hungary.

The Irons No7 was introduced on 72 minutes, in place of former Sassulo teammate Giacomo Raspadori, with the result already secured by Gli Azzurri.

It was Raspadori who put Italy ahead on 27 minutes, when a defensive lapse by the Hungarian side permitted him to roll the ball into an empty net.

Federico Dimarco sealed the win for the reigning European champions after the half-time interval when he tapped in Bryan Cristante's cross.

Monday's results mean that Scamacca and his Italian teammates finish top of Group A3 with 11 points, while Kehrer and German finish third. Rice and England end the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League campaign in fourth and have been relegated to League B.
