Scamacca: We need to take this into the Premier League

Gianluca Scamacca believes West Ham United’s 6-1 aggregate victory over Viborg in the UEFA Europa Conference League play-off round can act as lift-off for the team’s Premier League campaign.

Scamacca netted the opener of Thursday’s second leg 3-0 success, adding to his goal at London Stadium a week ago, as the Hammers eased into the competition’s group stage.

Sunday will bring with it a swift return to Premier League action, when the east Londoners head to Aston Villa, so Italy striker Scamacca says the win in Denmark can only act as the perfect boost as they aim to take their first points against the Villans.

“It was a good night. It was important to win and it wasn’t easy here, but we did very good work,” the No7 explained.

“Now we need to take this to the Premier League and we will do.

“It was nice to score and we are getting confidence together. I think in the next weeks we will be better.”

Progress to the group stage of continental competition for a second straight year was another key objective for the Hammers in the early part of the new season, so Scamacca was delighted to get the job done in Denmark.

His opener gave the visitors a firm grim on the tie, before second half goals from Saïd Benrahma and Tomáš Souček completed the victory.

“We want to be in the Europa Conference League, so it was so important to win,” Scamacca added.

“Everyone want to play in the European competitions, so it was a big night for us and we will give 100 percent to go as far as possible.”
