Vladimir Coufal and Tomas Soucek

Souček and Coufal in Czech Republic squad

Tomáš Souček and Vladimír Coufal have been named in Czech Republic’s 23-man squad for four UEFA Nations League A Group 2 ties in June.

The Czechs kick-off their 2022-23 Nations League campaign with home and away ties with Spain, a home game with Switzerland and away match in Portugal.

Midfielder and captain Souček should reach the 50-cap landmark during the upcoming quartet of fixtures, as he goes into the June international break with 48 to his name since debuting against Denmark in November 2016.

And right-back Coufal will likely add to his own haul of 26 caps on his return to the national team, having missed the 2022 FIFA World Cup Play-Off semi-final defeat by Sweden in March through injury.

After finishing sixth at UEFA Euro 2020 and missing out on qualification for Qatar, the Czechs will hope to discover the same form they showed in finishing top of Nations League B Group 2 in the 2020-21 tournament.

Coufal kicked-off that promotion-winning campaign with his first international goal in a 3-1 win in Slovakia, while Souček scored in a 2-0 home victory over the same opposition that secured the Czechs’ promotion to League A.

There, Václav Černý’s squad will take on Switzerland and Spain in Prague on 2 June and 5 June respectively, before heading to Lisbon to tackle Portugal on 9 June, then onto Málaga for the return tie with Spain on 12 June.

The Switzerland home game will be broadcast live in the UK by BoxNation, with the three other fixtures being screened live by Premier Sports.

Everyone at West Ham United would like to congratulate Tomáš and Vladimír on their call-ups and wish them the best for this summer’s international fixtures.
