West Ham United duo Tomáš Souček and Vladimír Coufal both played the full 90 minutes as the Czech Republic were held to a 0-0 draw by Moldova.
The Czech Republic were seeking to secure consecutive UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying wins in their second match of the international break but were unable to break down a resolute and determined Moldovan side.
Once again, both midfielder Souček and right-back Coufal were named in the starting XI for their country, having both played a pivotal role in a 3-1 win over Poland last time out.
However, it was Moldova who went closest in the opening exchanges, with only Coufal’s clearance off the line on 25 minutes denying the hosts an unlikely opener.
As the first half ticked into extra-time, captain Souček rattled the woodwork with a powerful effort, but could not find the target.
Jan Kuchta went close early in the second half, only to see his shot saved by goalkeeper Dorian Railean, before Bayer Leverkusen's Adam Hlozek also saw an effort turned away.
The match at the Zimbru Stadium in Chișinău would end 0-0; a frustrating result for the Czech visitors who had largely dominated proceedings.
Souček, Coufal and their international compatriots held 68 per cent of the possession and played 566 passes, compared to Moldova’s 279. However, of their 16 attempted shots, only three were on target, telling the story of a disappointing evening in front of goal.
Despite the draw, the Czech Republic are top of Group E in their quest to qualify for the UEFA European Championship Finals next year. They have four points from two matches played.
Elsewhere, Ollie Scarles came on as a substitute as England U18s ended their tour of Croatia with a 3-1 win over Switzerland.
Scarles was introduced in place of Arsenal’s Lino Sousa on 64 minutes in Pula, with the young Lions already 2-1 ahead.
England took the lead inside the opening minute through Sonny Finch of Middlesbrough, but Switzerland levelled not long after.
Bobby Clark of Liverpool restored England's advantage just before half-time, picking up a finish on the rebound following Chelsea striker Leo Castledine’s saved shot, while victory was assured win midway through the second half thanks to Jobe Bellingham.
