Souček and Coufal named in Czech Republic squad for UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers

Tomáš Souček and Vladimír Coufal have been named in the Czech Republic squad for their first two UEFA European Championship 2024 qualifying matches.

National side captain Souček and defender Coufal will link up head coach Jaroslav Šilhavý and the rest of the 24-man squad during the first international break of 2023, as the Czech Republic look to open the qualification process for next year's European Championships with a pair of wins.

The Czech Republic will face Poland at Sinobo Stadium in Prague on Friday 24 March in the first qualifier, with kick-off set for 7.45pm GMT, before travelling to play Moldova at the Zimbru Stadium in Chișinău on Monday 27 March. Kick-off in the second match is at 7.45pm BST.

Midfielder Souček is the most capped of the Czech internationals named in this squad with the 28-year-old earning 56 caps for his country, scoring nine goals. Coufal, meanwhile, has represented the Czech Republic on 34 occasions, scoring once.

A new qualifying campaign spells the dawn of a new era at national side level, with six new faces in the Czech Republic team for the upcoming March fixtures.
