David Moyes has issued an update on the fitness of his squad ahead of West Ham United’s Premier League fixture with Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.
The Hammers head into their final fixture before the mid-season break for the 2022 FIFA World Cup knowing victory over Brendan Rodgers' men could move the Club as high as eleventh in the table.
Of course, the Irons will be buoyed by a run of four matches unbeaten against the Foxes, although Moyes confirmed he will not have a full squad to select from on Saturday afternoon.
With a fourth home league win up for grabs in east London, the boss explained that Emerson was a doubt ahead of only the Hammers’ second Saturday 3pm kick-off of the 2022/23 season due to a broken nose.
“Emerson is touch-and-go because he broke his nose in the midweek game,” Moyes explained about the Italy wing-back’s fitness. “He’s had it reset but I’m not sure how he’s going to be."
In the Irons’ 24th match of the season, Moyes added that his side will be without Maxwel Cornet against Leicester City, who like West Ham, have taken 14 points from as many fixtures.
The boss ruled the No14 out of the fixture and explained that he will not be available until the Premier League resumes after the World Cup finals.
“Cornet is not available,” Moyes confirmed. “He won’t come back until after the World Cup.
“We’ve also got a couple of other knocks and niggles as well, which I’m sure all teams have, so we’re waiting on a couple of things for tomorrow to see who is available.”
