Team News: Lanzini and Coufal return at Brentford

Manuel Lanzini and Vladimír Coufal return to West Ham United’s starting XI for Sunday’s Premier League fixture at Brentford.

Lanzini is back after a two-match absence, having recovered from the bruising he suffered in a car accident while returning from international duty with Argentina.

Coufal, meanwhile, returns after missing seven matches following surgery to repair a hernia injury in late February and being an unused substitute for the Premier League win over Everton and UEFA Europa League quarter-final first-leg draw with Olympique Lyonnais at London Stadium.

The third of three changes sees Łukasz Fabiański return to his role as Premier League goalkeeper, replacing Europa League regular Alphonse Areola between the sticks at Brentford Community Stadium.

Otherwise, David Moyes sticks with the players who started Thursday’s Europa League tie, which ended 1-1 and saw West Ham play the entire second half with ten men after Aaron Cresswell was sent-off on the stroke of half-time.

Right-back Ryan Fredericks and former Bees attacking midfielder Saïd Benrahma are the two outfield players to drop to the substitutes’ bench alongside Areola.

So, Fabiański starts in goal behind a back four of Coufal, Craig Dawson, Kurt Zouma and Aaron Cresswell, whose one-match ban is confined to the Europa League, meaning the left-back will miss Thursday’s return leg in France.

Declan Rice captains the side and partners Tomáš Souček in central midfield, with in-form Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Fornals playing either side of Lanzini behind centre-forward Michail Antonio.

Should Bowen scored this afternoon, he will become the first Englishman to net ten Premier League goals in a season for the Hammers since current assistant coach Kevin Nolan did so as captain in 2013/14.

Areola, Fredericks and Benrahma are joined on the substitutes’ bench by defenders Ben Johnson and Issa Diop, wing-back Arthur Masuaku, midfielders Mark Noble and Alex Král and attackers Nikola Vlašić and Andriy Yarmolenko.
