Kurt Zouma

Team News: Moyes issues Zouma update

David Moyes says Kurt Zouma is 'making good progress' in his recovery from the ankle injury he suffered in the Premier League fixture at Crystal Palace on 29 April.

The France international defender was replaced early in the first half at Selhurst Park, and missed the Premier League games against Manchester City and Manchester United, but has now returned to training at Rush Green.

Speaking to the media ahead of Thursday's UEFA Europa Conference League semi-final first-leg tie with AZ Alkmaar at London Stadium, manager Moyes was keeping his cards close to his chest when asked if the No4 could feature against the Dutch side.

"Kurt has had a day back, but he is just starting back really, and we are just trying to see how his ankle is and how he is getting on," said the Scot. "Hopefully, he is making good progress.

"It’s a good chance that it is probably too soon for tomorrow, but we will see how he feels tomorrow and make a decision based on that."

Zouma's availability remains uncertain, but Moyes will definitely be without Gianluca Scamacca (knee) and Vladimír Coufal (hamstring).

"I don’t think there are any new knocks," the manager continued. "I think there is a lot of tiredness and a lot of fatigue around every camp at the moment from the Premier League. But I think we are all okay."

AZ Alkmaar will be without Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez through suspension. Captain and former Stoke City centre-back Bruno Martins Indi (thigh), goalkeeper Sem Westerveld (knee), Sweden forward Jesper Karlsson (leg) and attacking midfielder Dani de Wit (foot) have also not travelled.
