West Ham United is proud to present ‘One of our Own’ – an exclusive feature length documentary celebrating the life and career of Mark Noble.
‘One of our Own’ charts the remarkable story of Noble’s life and times with the Hammers, from his upbringing in the heart of east London, right through to captaining his beloved team as they moved from the Boleyn Ground to London Stadium.
One of the most important figures in the Club’s history, Noble made 550 appearances for the Club he supports between 2004 and 2022, winning two Hammer of the Year awards, two promotions and earning the respect of players, managers and supporters throughout the football world.
The 75-minute film offers humour, emotion and revealing insights as Noble reveals exactly what fulfilling his boyhood dream of playing in front of the Claret and Blue Army meant to him.
With contributions from Noble's father, Mark Senior, the scouts who recruited him, the coaches who made him, former teammates including Teddy Sheringham, Carlos Tevez, James Collins, Carlton Cole and Bobby Zamora, managers David Moyes, Sam Allardyce and Alan Curbishley, plus personal insight from the man himself and rare archive footage, this is the definitive chronicle of a unique and storied career.
'One of our Own' is essential viewing for lovers not just of West Ham United, but of football.
Born and raised in east London, Noble played football whenever he could, initially in the street and alleyway outside his Canning Town home, then his local park, school playground and for Barking Colts and Newham District – all just a short distance from the Boleyn Ground – before being recruited by Arsenal.
At 13, though, with the encouragement of his father, Mark Senior, Noble joined the Academy of Football and began a Claret and Blue journey that lasted more than two decades.
A technically gifted and tenacious midfielder, Noble’s work ethic and commitment set him apart and he quickly moved up through the age groups, becoming West Ham’s youngest-ever reserve-team player at 15 and making his first-team debut in a League Cup win over Southend United at his beloved Boleyn Ground at 17 in August 2004.
A year later, he appeared in front of over 70,000 fans at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium as the Hammers won promotion to the Premier League. In 2007, he broke into the side and inspired the famous ‘Great Escape’, and in 2012, he helped his Club win the Championship Play-Off final at Wembley.
A proud captain of England at U19 and U21 levels, Noble developed into a leader and legend at West Ham, breaking the Club's all-time Premier League appearance-record, wearing the captain’s armband and acting as the team’s talismanic leader as he steered them to their new home in Stratford and into Europe.
As we see, Noble’s career was not without its challenges, though, including a difficult loan spell, injuries, relegation in 2011 and a lack of recognition from England at senior level.
Noble is Mr West Ham and 'One of our Own' goes to the heart of the unique connection between a unique player and his fellow Hammers supporters.
