Tall, athletic and technically gifted, Joseph Anang is a goalkeeper with immense promise.

Born in Ghana, Anang moved to England as a teenager with a dream of becoming a professional footballer - one he has fulfilled since joining West Ham United in 2017.

Blessed with wonderful distribution and a superb sense of humour, the popular stopper has senior experience from loan spells with Stevenage and League of Ireland club St Patrick's Athletic.

Career

2022/23

Returned to England and joined Derby County on loan in August 2022...Named on the bench for the EFL League One fixture at Shrewbury Town in August 2022...Suffered a broken arm in training and did not make a first-team appearance for the Rams before returning to West Ham United in January 2023 to become part of the first-team squad.

2021/22

Joined EFL League Two team Stevenage on loan ahead of the 2021/22 campaign...Played 18 times in all competitions for Stevenage before returning to the Hammers in January 2022...Joined League of Ireland Premier Division side St Patrick's Athletic on loan for the 2022 season in January 2022...Kept 12 clean sheets and conceded just 29 goals in 30 appearances for St Pat's...Helped the Irish side defeat NS Mura of Slovenia on penalties in the UEFA Europa Conference League second qualifying round.

2020/21

Played 21 times in all competitions for West Ham United's development squad.

2019/20

Played in all but one Premier League 2 Division 2 match as the U23s won the title...Featured in his first-ever Premier League matchday squad - away at Crystal Palace on Boxing Day 2019 - having made his England U20s debut in a 3-0 win over Iceland in November.

2018/19

Tour with the first-team squad in pre-season in summer 2018...Sign his first professional contract and established himself as first-choice goalkeeper for the U18s...Debuted for the U23s in Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy in September 2018...Made his first England U19 squad in October 2018...Travelled with the Hammers' first-team squad regularly as the 2018/19 season went on.

2017/18

Joined the Academy of Football in July 2017, having moved to England from Ghana, but had to wait until March 2018 for international clearance to play for the U18s...Trained alongside the likes of Joe Hart and Adrián while he waited to make his competitive debut...Kept a clean sheet on his belated debut in a 2-0 U18 Premier League South win over Tottenham Hotspur in March 2018...Made five youth-team appearances in his foreshortened first season in Claret and Blue.
