Alphonse Areola and his teammates kept Pep Guardiola’s side at bay before Mark Noble, Jarrod Bowen, Craig Dawson, Aaron Cresswell and Saïd Benrahma’s shootout spot-kicks took the Londoners through to the quarter-finals.

Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma played a starring role as West Ham United scored a thrilling victory over Jürgen Klopp’s Reds. Ogbonna forced Alisson to put through his own goal inside four minutes, Pablo Fornals put the hosts back in front after Trent Alexander-Arnold had equalised, then Zouma made sure of the points with a towering header 16 minutes from full-time.

The Hammers came from a goal down twice to score a dramatic victory over local rivals Chelsea. Manuel Lanzini’s penalty and Jarrod Bowen’s accurate shot either side of half-time levelled matters before Arthur Masuaku’s fortuitous cross three minutes from full-time flew few beyond Édouard Mendy.

Having held their oppoents to a 1-1 draw at London Stadium, despite playing the entire second half with ten men, West Ham United produced a sensational performance in France, where two goals just before half-time from Craig Dawson and Declan Rice and one just after from Jarrod Bowen powered the Hammers into the UEFA Europa League semi-finals.
