Player Pathway Model

The Foundation’s Player Pathway Model consists of a three-tier system (four-tier for girls), designed to complement young people's grassroots development, which provides young footballers with a specialised environment where they can develop as a player, both on and off the pitch.

The Player Pathway engages players of all levels and abilities with entry tiers training once-a-week with exhibition matches during the school holidays, and performance squads training twice-a-week and competing in the Junior Premier League on Saturdays. The higher tiers of the Pathway aim to offer an environment which bridges the gap between grassroots and academy football.

  • Three-tier system (Four-tier for girls);

    • Technical Development Centres – Entry tier aimed at ages 5-16 with a strong focus on high ball-rolling time and an emphasis on the individual, 1v1 and 2v2 aspects of the game.

    • Emerging Talent Centres – Tier 2 squads ranging from U9-U16 designed to offer players an introduction to a squad environment, understanding their individual roles and responsibilites within a team.

    • Performance Squads – U10-U16 squads giving players the opportunity to apply their learned roles and responsibilities within weekly league fixtures

    • Female Youth Team – The final tier of the Female’s Player Pathway looks to progress players into the Women’s first team via the Under-21s. Girls train twice a week in Beckton with weekly JPL fixtures at the weekends and have access to elite level coaching, as well as sports injury clinics, strength and conditioning plans and regular IDPs.
