Aguerd v Canada

Aguerd called-up for two Morocco friendlies

Nayef Aguerd has been named in Morocco’s squad for a duo of friendlies across the March international window.

The 26-year-old will play against Brazil and Peru for the Atlas Lions, who reached the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finals in Qatar.

Walid Regragui’s men will host Brazil at Tangier’s Grand Stadium on Saturday 25 March, before travelling to the Spanish capital Madrid to play Peru on Tuesday 28 March at Civitas Metropolitano Stadium.

Morocco last played Brazil at the 1998 FIFA World Cup group stage, when goals from Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Bebeto secured a 3-0 win for the South Americans. Aguerd and company, meanwhile, will take on Peru for the first time since the 1970 FIFA World Cup finals in Mexico, when Peru won the Group D meeting 3-0.

Nayef Aguerd v Croatia

Aguerd reached 30 senior caps at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, featuring as Morocco made the knockouts for the first time since 1986.

A prominent feature in three Group F games against Croatia, Belgium and Canada and a round-of-16 win over Spain, Aguerd was ruled out of the quarter-final win over Portugal due to injury, before Morocco's run to the last four ended with defeat to eventual runners-up France.

The 26-year-old, who signed for West Ham United last summer, scored his only international goal in a 2-0 win over Sudan in September 2021.

The Kénitra-born centre-back could line-up against Hammers teammate Paquetá, should the West Ham No11 make the Brazil squad.
