Viviane Asseyi

Asseyi: I’m very happy with how my first couple of weeks have gone

It’s been just over two weeks since Viviane Asseyi was announced as a West Ham United player.

The forward has made the move to England for the first time in her career after leaving Bayern Munich this summer.

After making her first appearance for her new Club in the 2-1 victory over Charlton Athletic, Asseyi is looking to build on that this weekend when the Hammers take on Liverpool, a game that concludes a three day training camp in Leicestershire.

Asseyi has also been impressive by the facilities that the team have had access to whilst on campus.

“I’m very impressed with the facilities here at Loughborough University,” the French international told whufc.com.

“You’ve got everything you need around you; the pool is only two minutes away from our hotel – my first impressions are very good.”

The team also had time to take a look around the Loughborough University Stadium, where they will be playing Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

And Asseyi was impressed with how good the pitch and stadium looked.

“The pitch looks very nice – I’m very excited to be playing against a WSL side. Everyone has been working very hard over the past week and we’re looking forward to getting back out there.”

The Irons trained hard during their first day on campus – with Paul Konchesky and his coaching staff making the most of the time that the team had on the training pitch.

“The session today was a long one, but I don’t mind that because we still have a lot of things to work on. We’re trying to get to a good place, and that takes time.

“Since I came in, I think we’ve been making very good progress from what I can see. Even for myself personally, I feel good! I’m very happy with how my first couple of weeks have gone.

Viviane Asseyi x Hawa Cissoko

“I’m getting to the point where I’m starting to have a lot more energy, a lot more power, so I’m moving in the right direction in terms of my fitness.”

Asseyi was aided by countrywomen, Hawa Cissoko, when she arrived in east London, a player the forward knew from the French National team.

But it’s been meeting her new team-mates that Asseyi has enjoyed the most, and she’s looking forward to the rest of the weekend at Loughborough University.

“I’ve enjoyed coming into the environment and meeting all of the players. Obviously, I knew Hawa from the National Team, but I’ve been able to meet with and discover the talent of all of our other players since I’ve been here.

“Spirits seem really high in the camp, we’ve had a really good first day at the University and I’m excited to continue that on Saturday.”
