Viviane Asseyi was delighted to bag her first goals in the Barclays Women’s Super League for West Ham United Women on Sunday afternoon.
The Hammers clinched a 3-2 victory over Reading at Chigwell Construction Stadium to clinch back-to-back victories in the Barclays Women’s Super League for the first time this season.
The French forward scored the second and third goals to put Paul Konchesky’s side in a commanding position going into the half-time break.
However, the Royals were the dominant team in the second half and made it an interesting final ten minutes in east London, as Charlie Wellings and Sanne Troelsgaard both netted with the clock ticking down.
But Asseyi and her teammates hung on to take all three points from a tough contest, and she was delighted that the team secured the victory.
“I’m really happy that we were able to get the win today because I think our play in the first half deserved that,” she told whufc.com.
“I’ve been waiting to score a goal in the WSL for a little while now, so I’m pleased to get two here today.
“I think there’s definitely more goals to come from me, and hopefully these two are the first of many in the division.”
The Hammers certainly made it harder than it needed to be, and seemingly lost a lot of their rhythm and attacking prowess that had served them so well in the opening 45 minutes.
And Asseyi admits that the team need to work on how they perform in the second half of matches.
“We had a lot of fun on the pitch in the first half, but we all know that the second half needs to be much better.
“We have to try and work on the things that didn’t go right in the second half during training,
“I think everyone worked really hard to make sure that we stayed in the game, but we do need to be better and make it easier for ourselves.”
Asseyi has added dynamism to the West Ham United front line, with her pace allowing her cause issues for defenders offensively, but also defensively with her strong pressing from the front.
The former Bayern Munich players has consistently found the back of the net throughout her career and seems to be finding her feet in the Claret & Blue of West Ham United.
“I really like playing here with West Ham United and in the WSL because every game is really tough. All of the teams are competitive and give you a good game, so I’m really enjoying that side of it.
“I think the fans here in England are great, particularly our fans. They really helped us out on the pitch today to make sure that we came away with all three points, and it’s always nice to go over and see them at the end of the match.”
West Ham United Women are back at Chigwell Construction Stadium on Sunday 6 November when they face Brighton & Hove Albion in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
