West Ham United Women hit the road for the first time in the new Barclays Women’s Super League season as they travel to Kingsmeadow to face Chelsea.
The two teams were meant to face one another at Stamford Bridge on what was set to be the opening day of the 2022/23 campaign, but football in the United Kingdom paused as a mark of respect after the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Paul Konchesky’s Hammers are looking to bounce back after a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, whilst Chelsea secured their first win of the season, beating Manchester City 2-0 at Kingsmeadow last time out.

Paul Konchesky is still only without one senior first-team player as his team face off against the Champions. Denmark international, Emma Snerle is the only confirmed absentee, with the midfielder continuing with her rehabilitation having been out for five months with a long-term injury.

If you are looking to use public transport, then the closest rail station to Kingsmeadow is Norbition, which is served by South Western Railway services from Waterloo.
From Norbiton station, leave via the back exit (Westbound platform), and take the first left onto Norbiton Avenue. At the end of the avenue, turn right Gloucester Road, and at the end of Gloucester Road turn left into Cambridge Road. The main entrance to Kingsmeadow is 400 yards down on the right. The away entrance a little further on past this on the right-hand side and is well sign posted.
Supporters are advised to check their journeys before travel, with resources such as TfL's Journey Planner or the TfL Go app helping to plan your journey.
Supporters may also wish to visit the National Rail website to plan their journey if traveling on the rail network.
Opposition
Chelsea are still the dominant force in the Barclays Women’s Super League, having clinched their fifth title on the final day of the 2021/22 season last time out.
Emma Hayes has been at the helm for over a decade and has transformed the Club from top to bottom in her time in charge, bringing in a whole host of international superstars whilst also facilitating the progression of several young players.
The Blues have strengthened once again this summer, bringing in quality at the back in the form of France international Ève Périsset and Canadian international Kadeisha Buchanan, whilst Katerina Svitkova swapped East London for West after leaving West Ham this summer to sign a three-year-contract at Kingsmeadow.
The defending champions got off to a shaky start, losing to Liverpool on the opening day of the 2022/23 Barclays Women’s Super League season. They have since bounced back, beating Manchester City at Kingsmeadow last Sunday with Fran Kirby and Maren Mjelde scoring in a 2-0 victory.
