Declan Rice

Declan Rice named UEFA Europa Conference League Player of the Season

Declan Rice has been named the 2022/23 UEFA Europa Conference League Player of the Season, with five other Hammers named alongside the skipper in the Team of the Season.

UEFA's Technical Observer panel selected their eleven, made up of players from West Ham United, ACF Fiorentina and FC Basel.

Alongside Skipper Rice, West Ham’s top scorer in the competition, Michail Antonio is part of the Team of the Season.

Alphonse Areola, Nayef Aguerd, Paquetá and Jarrod Bowen are the other four West Ham players included.

Dan Ndoye (Basel), Nikola Milenković (Fiorentina), Cristiano Biraghi (Fiorentina), Andy Diouf (Basel), and Nicolás González (Fiorentina) also make UEFA's shortlist.

Alphonse Areola

Alphonse Areola

Alphonse Areola featured in all 15 of West Ham’s games in the UEFA Europa Conference League campaign, keeping seven clean sheets across the tournament.

The French stopper conceded just nine goals in the tournament, with his best moment a memorable save to deny Fabio Silva to preserve a 1-0 win over RSC Anderlecht last year.

Nayef Aguerd

Aguerd and Zouma

There is no doubt Nayef Aguerd has been key to West Ham’s success this season.

Following a long road to recovery after a pre-season injury sustained against Rangers almost a year ago, Aguerd made eight appearances, producing a string of vital showings across the knockout stages.

Declan Rice

There is no surprise that Declan Rice was named in the Team of the Season.

The Club skipper has been unanimous with the Club’s success in this tournament, making eleven appearances and registering one goal and one assist.

With 92.6 per cent passing completion across the campaign, Rice’s best moment came in the quarter-final against KAA Gent. In front of a packed London Stadium, the No41 surged from his own half to book a second consecutive European semi-final with a stunning swish of his left foot.

He then became the third West Ham skipper to lift a major trophy, following in the footsteps of Billy Bonds and Bobby Moore in Prague.

Paquetá

Aguerd and Paquetá

Paquetá certainly brought the party to east London during the tournament this season.

Known for his dancing feet on and off the field, the Brazil creator made eleven appearances, scoring one goal and registering four assists.

Indeed, it was during this competition that Paquetá netted his first home goal for West Ham. The No11 struck from the spot against KAA Gent to send the Hammers on their way to European glory.

Jarrod Bowen

Bowen celebrates

While Jarrod Bowen’s 90th-minute winner in Prague will take the top seat in his memorable West Ham moments, the No20 has been key throughout the tournament this term.

In eleven matches, Bowen recorded eight goal contributions including five goals, notably striking the winner against Fiorentina.

Only Mikael Ishak (Lech Poznán) and Nicolás González (Fiorentina) have scored more combined goals and assists in the 2022/23 UEFA Europa Conference League.

Michail Antonio

Antonio

West Ham United’s top scorer in this competition is Michail Antonio.

A constant threat. Confident. Goalscorer. What a player he has been for the Hammers this season.

A brace in both the round of 16 and quarter-final saw West Ham book their place in the semi-finals, although it was his work rate in the semi-final and final that helped the Hammers over the line.

Only two players Arthur Cabral (Fiorentina) and Zeki Amdouni (Basel) have scored more than Antonio’s six goals in the competition this season (group stage onwards).
