West Ham United will need to come from behind to reach their first European final in 46 years after Eintracht Frankfurt took a 2-1 lead from the first leg at London Stadium.
The Hammers hit the woodwork three times and were ultimately left to rue those missed chances as an efficient Eintracht side scored at the start of both halves.
Ansgar Knauff headed the visitors in front with just 49 seconds on the clock, prompting a strong Hammers response which yielded a close-range leveller from Michail Antonio on 21 minutes.
Jarrod Bowen hit the post in the first half, while Saïd Benrahma curled a second half effort against the upright before Bowen's spectacular overhead kick rattled the bar in stoppage time, but Daichi Kamada's 54th minute goal was to split the sides at the halfway stage of the tie.
