June International Break - All You Need To Know

Ten West Ham United players have been called up by their countries for senior international fixtures to be played during the summer break.

With qualifiers for UEFA Euro 2024 continuing this month in Europe, Tomáš Souček and Vladimír Coufal have been selected by their country, Czech Republic, while Declan Rice will be part of England’s squad and will hope to be involved in their qualifiers.

Alphonse Areola is also part of France’s squad for their respective qualifying matches, with U18s striker Callum Marshall receiving his first senior call-up to the Northern Ireland squad. Thilo Kehrer is part of a squad for three international friendlies, with Germany already qualifying for UEFA Euro 2024 as hosts.

A trio of Hammers are also involved in CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, as Algeria’s Saïd Benrahma, Ivory Coast’s Maxwel Cornet and Morocco’s Nayef Aguerd will hope to take further steps towards qualification across the international break.

Further afield, Brazil’s Paquetá will take part in friendlies for Brazil. Meanwhile, Krisztián Hegyi and Armstrong Okoflex of the Academy of Football youngsters have also received call-ups and will participate in fixtures.

When and where are the Hammers in action?

The action begins on Monday 12 June with Kehrer and Aguerd involved in friendlies for Germany and Morocco respectively. Germany host Ukraine at Weserstadion at 5pm BST, while Morocco face Cape Verde at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium at 8pm BST.

Kehrer’s action could continue with a friendly against Poland on Friday 16 June at National Stadium Warsaw at 7.45pm BST on what is a busy day for international Hammers.

Rice, Areola and Marshall are also involved as UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers get underway, as England takes on Malta at Ta’Qali Stadium, France face Gibraltar at Estádio Algarve and Northern Ireland travel to Parken Stadium to play Denmark, with all three fixtures starting at 7.45pm BST.  

A day later, Aguerd will complete his international break with a CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, with kick-off set for 4PM BST.

Cornet is set to play in a CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday 17 June as Ivory Coast face Zambia at 2pm BST, with Souček, Coufal and Paquetá also involved on a busy day of action for Hammers.

Souček and Coufal start their international break as Czech Republic take on Faroe Irelands in a UEFA Euro qualifier at 7.45pm BST, while Paquetá and Brazil will play Guinea in a friendly in Barcelona, with kick-off set for 8.30pm BST.

Sunday 18 June will see Benrahma in action for Algeria, who face Uganda at 4pm BST in a CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Top of the group with two wins over Ukraine and Italy last time out, Rice and England then take on North Macedonia at Old Trafford at 7.45PM BST on Monday 20 June, with Areola and Marshall in UEFA Euro qualifier action.

With two wins from their first two group fixtures, France play Greece at Estádio Algarve in Portugal at 7.45pm BST, while Marshall and Northern Ireland face Kazakhstan at Windsor Park at 7.45pm BST.

On Tuesday 20 June, the final day of action across this break for international Hammers, Kehrer completes his international window with the final of three friendlies taking place at Veltins-Arena, as Germany host Colombia at 7.45pm BST.

Paquetá and Benrahma are also involved in friendlies. Brazil take on Senegal at Estádio José Alvalade in Portugal at 8.30pm BST, while Algeria will play Tunisia at 8pm BST.

Meanwhile, Souček and Coufal will hope to feature as the Czech Republic take on Montenegro in a UEFA Euro qualifier at 7.45pm BST.

Where can I watch the games?

England’s fixtures against Malta and North Macedonia will be broadcast live in the UK on Channel 4 and online via All 4.

The remainder of the European qualifiers will be broadcast across Viaplay’s channels.

How about the Academy of Football?

Okoflex will be involved in three international friendlies across the break for the Republic of Ireland, who head to Austria for a post-season camp.

Okoflex and company start their break with a fixture against Gabon on 13 June, before taking on Ukraine on 16 June and then Kuwait on 19 June.

Meanwhile, Hegyi is set to be involved in two international friendlies for Hungary U21s. They face Slovakia on 15 June, before entertaining Israel on 19 June.
