West Ham United Women’s Manager, Paul Konchesky wants to see a more ruthless streak from his team when they welcome Aston Villa to Chigwell Construction Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Hammers take on the Villans for the second time in two weeks in east London, having lost out to Carla Ward’s side on penalties in the fifth round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup in their previous home fixture.
And after defeat last weekend against Reading when they returned to Barclays Women’s Super League action – a game in which they had numerous clear-cut chances to come away with points, the Boss is hoping to see a clinical performance this time around.
We have to make sure we take the chances when they present themselves to us.
We will get chances on Sunday, I’m sure of that; it’s about our ability to make sure that the ball finds its way into the back of the net. Our composure in front of goal will be key, and that’s something that has been lacking in recent weeks.
Playing Villa recently will likely not give us too much of an advantage.
It was only two weeks ago that we were playing them at home in the FA Cup, so that can help us in terms of preparation, but it will also help Villa.
We’ll obviously adapt certain parts of our play to exploit their weaknesses, but we know that Villa will also be prepared.
It’s going to be another tough game, they’ve been going well in recent weeks, but our motivation is to be the side that brings and end to their good run, whilst also getting back to where we want to be as well.
We’re pretty much in a similar place selection wise.
Jess will obviously miss out, Amber is working well and is getting closer and closer – but this weekend will be a little bit too soon for her.
Dagny missed the last game against Reading, and at the moment we’re unsure as to how much of a part she will be able to play, if any. We will be assessing her at training on Saturday and will make a decision then with the medical team.
The supporters will be important.
They have been all season to us, and I hope that they know that we appreciate everyone who turns out to watch us.
We want to get back on track for them and pick up a result, and we will need the noise that they bring to help make that happen on Sunday.
