Thea Kyvåg enjoyed the experience of making her first Barclays Women’s Super League start last weekend against Aston Villa.
The Norway U19 international had previously been deployed from the bench in every one of West Ham United Women’s previous fixtures but was given the opportunity to start against the Villans.
She was effective throughout the match at Bescot Stadium, particularly with her penetrating runs in behind the Villa backline.
Now, Kyvåg is hoping that she can build on that individual performance and make further starts in Claret & Blue - starting with this weekends match against Reading.
“It was a really cool experience to be able to start my first WSL match,” Kyvåg told whufc.com.
“The big thing I’ve noticed since I started playing in the league is how quick the games are, the tempo is much quicker than it is back home in the Norwegian league.
“But it’s been really enjoyable to come up against some really tough opponents so far, and I know that going up against Reading will be no different.”
Kyvåg arrived in East London from LSK Kvinner this summer, with the 18-year-old making the move abroad for the first time in her career, signing a three-year-contract for Paul Konchesky’s side.
The attacker says that she’s slowly settling into life here in England and is hoping that the team can continue picking up points.
“It’s been hard for me because it’s the first time that I’ve left home and the first time I haven’t had my family with me.
“Everyone at the Club has been so welcoming and has really helped me settle in – I think we’ve got a really nice, but also talented group of players.
“I think we’ve made quite a good start in the league; we’ve obviously played some tough opponents so far and got some decent results.
“We want to continue picking up points and hopefully we can do that against Reading.”
Despite only being a mere 18-years-old, Kyvåg has shown plenty of promise in her early appearances for West Ham United.
Kyvåg is one of several young players that are being given opportunities in the first team squad this season.
And Kyvåg is revelling in the opportunities that she has so far been given by Konchesky.
“It’s really good that I’ve been able to feature in all of the matches this season, particularly as I’m so young, it’s brilliant experience for me.
“I feel as though I’m developing consistently since I joined – I’m learning new things every day and I feel as though I’m slowly getting used to the tempo and what it takes to perform in this league.
“The coaching team are also really helping me to develop across a number of areas. I’m really pleased with the progress I’m making, but also with the start that the team has made,” Kyvåg concluded.
