A few West Ham United loanees were in action, with Arthur Masuaku arguably having the best weekend...
As Beşiktaş beat Istanbul Başakşehir 2-0 on Sunday, Arthur Masuaku netted his second goal of the 2022/23 season.
The attacking full-back struck a low effort into the bottom left corner of the net to double his side’s lead after Vincent Aboubakar scored the game’s opening goal with 15 minutes on the clock.
İstanbul Başakşehir played most of the match with ten men after former Manchester United midfielder Adnan Januzaj was sent-off just after the half-hour mark. Masuaku also scored in a 1-0 win over Adana Demirspor in December last year, taking his goal contributions to five this season.
As a result, Masuaku and company climb to third in the Süper Lig table, with 13 wins from 24 games. They have lost only one of their last five matches.
There were also three points for goalkeeper Nathan Trott. The 24-year-old played his part in Vejle’s 3-1 win over FC Fredericia in the Danish First Division on Sunday.
Trott’s side took the lead through left-back Miiko Albornoz inside 20 minutes but Frederik Carstensen pulled the match level after half an hour.
Then, after the visitors had Valance Nambishi sent-off, goals from Christian Gammelgaard and Mouhamadou Drammeh secured Vejle's points.
With their fourth win in their last five league games, the current Danish First Division leaders extended their lead to six points at the top of the table.
Meanwhile, Conor Coventry was unable to prevent Rotherham from losing in the EFL Championship.
At St Andrew's, the Millers suffered a 2-0 defeat to Birmingham City as Reda Khadra and Kevin Long scored the hosts' goals.
Coventry, who saw his free-kick almost converted by teammate Hakeem Odoffin for an equaliser, played for just over an hour in the Midlands, before George Kelly replaced him.
Rotherham sit in 20th place in the EFL Championship, eight points clear of Blackpool, Huddersfield Town and Wigan Athletic, who occupy the bottom three and are all level on 32 points.
