Manchester United Women v West Ham United - All You Need To Know

Manchester United Women v West Ham United
Barclays Women’s Super League, Old Trafford, Saturday 25 March 2023, 5:30pm GMT

West Ham United Women face off against Manchester United at Old Trafford when they return to Barclays Women’s Super League action on Saturday evening.

The Hammers head to the Theatre of Dreams on ‘Women’s Football Weekend’, a collective celebration of the incredible talent, unmissable match action and vibrant community that makes up domestic women’s football in England.

It will be the second time that the Irons have visited the famous stadium – having lost 2-0 to United in March 2020 – a game which took place without the presence of fans.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of another exciting WSL clash.

Team News…

West Ham United Manager Paul Konchesky will be without Jess Ziu and Amber Tysiak for the trip to Manchester on Saturday. Ziu has been out with an ACL injury since the penalty shootout win over London City Lionesses in early October but is making good progress with her rehabilitation. Tysiak is close to returning to action, but the trip to Old Trafford will come too soon for the Belgian international.

Abbey-Leigh Stringer hasn’t featured in the WSL since the 0-0 draw with Arsenal in early February and is also a doubt for Saturday’s fixture.

The Opposition...

Manchester United are well and truly in the 2022/23 Barclays Women’s Super League title fight. The Red Devils sit second on 35 points, two points behind defending champions Chelsea heading into Saturday’s fixture.

Marc Skinner’s side have only lost two matches in their 15 games so far this season, with both of those defeats coming against Emma Hayes’ team. Indeed, their last fixture in the WSL (12 March) saw them lose 1-0 at Kingsmeadow.

They also have a Vitality Women’s FA Cup semi final against Brighton & Hove Albion to look forward to in the middle of April. Under Skinner, United look ready to take that next step and qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history.

The Hammers have had mixed success against Manchester United since turning professional in 2018 – with United winning five, West Ham winning one, and one draw. The solitary win came in December 2019, with Katharina Baunnach scoring two late free kicks to turn the game around.

Alessa Russo leads the scoring charts for Skinner’s side this season with eight goals, whilst Ella Toone and Ona Batlle have seven assists each.
