Amalie Thestrup is hoping that West Ham United Women can return to form when they visit Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon.
The Hammers head to West Sussex to take on the Seagulls at Crawley's Broadfield Stadium at 2pm BST, as they go in search of their first Barclays Women's Super League victory of the calendar year.
Paul Konchesky's side will be hoping that they can find the three points on Sunday to ease the pressure heading into the final weeks of the season.
Brighton sit four points behind Thestrup and Co in the WSL standings, and the forward believes that the game presents the team with a really good opportunity to return to form.
“We’ve had another break, which is tough because when you lose you want to go straight back into things. But it’s given us a chance to continuing working on the training pitch as we try and push our form in the right direction.
“We’ve had the chance to really analyse what went wrong against Manchester City and areas where we need to be stronger against Brighton – we’re excited to get back to it.”
Brighton are onto their third permanent manager of the 2022/23 season. Former London City Lionesses manager Melissa Phillips is at the helm, whilst Hope Powell and Jens Scheuer have also held the post this season.
In Phillips’ first couple of outings as boss, Brighton have looked largely impressive, and recently secured their first home league win of the season, which came in the form of a 3-2 win over Everton.
Thestrup and the squad are well aware of the type of Brighton side that they will face but know that a lot of what happens on Sunday afternoon will depend on what they are able to deliver on the pitch.
“We know that Brighton are a compact team, they like to press high and will be dangerous on the counter when we concede possession – we have to be ready for that.
“For us, we know that we need to be at our best to get a result, results haven’t been good enough and our form needs to change to make sure that we finish the season strongly. We want to be on the front foot and give them a hard time – we need to create more chances in games, but also make sure that we take them, so there’s lots that we need to take into this game and the other three that we have coming up to end the season.
“We’ve had spell where we’ve done really well in games, but it’s about maintaining that throughout the whole performance, and that’s what we’ve been trying to work on. We’ve been working on improving what we’ve been doing well and making sure that we’re more consistent," Thestrup said.
