West Ham United Women sign Denmark forward Amalie Thestrup on loan

West Ham United Women are pleased to announce the loan signing of Denmark international striker Amalie Thestrup from PSV Vrouwen, subject to international clearance.

Thestrup joins the Hammers on loan until the end of the 2022/23 season and will wear the No14 shirt in Claret and Blue.

A forward with title-winning credentials, Thestrup brings experience of playing in the Champions League and across Europe to the West Ham attacking line.

"It feels amazing to join West Ham United,” Thestrup told whufc.com. “I'm really excited to be here, meet the girls and the staff and to get started here in London.

"When joining the club on loan became an opportunity, it was really a no-brainer for me to make the move here. It's a well established Club in the Barclays Women's Super League, which is probably the best league in the world at the moment.

"It's a great opportunity for me to play with and compete against some of the best players on the planet, so I'm super excited to have the opportunity and I can't wait to get started."

Manager Paul Konchesky is delighted to welcome Thestrup to West Ham United and is looking forward to working with the newest striker in his team.

We're delighted to welcome Amalie to the Club,” Konchesky said. “Amalie will bring a non-stop work ethic on and off the pitch. She will make defenders know they have been in a game with her work rate and never-say-die attitude and I'm hoping her instinct in the box will give us another edge in matches.

"She also can play anywhere along the frontline which gives us a lot of options up there, and is something we have been missing."

Born in Hellerup, in the suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark, Thestrup began her playing career with Brøndby IF as a youngster, before spending the 2012/13 season with Danish second division side Boldklubben af 1893.

A year at the University of Tennessee followed before Thestrup began her senior spell with Brøndby, during which time the forward helped her club to a Elitedivisionen and Danich Cup double in 2015. Thestrup and her teammates would then repeat the feat two seasons later.

A season with Vejle BK would follow for the forward before Thestrup signed for Ballerup-Skovlunde Fodbold. Her two years with BSF would be the most prolific of Thestrup's career so far, with the attacker netting 32 goals in 48 outings.

Thestrup's fine form for BSF caught the attention of Italian side AS Roma, who signed the forward in 2019. The 27-year-old spent a single campaign in Serie A, netting three goals and helping Roma to a fourth-placed finish in a season that was curtailed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A switch to England followed as Thestrup linked up with Liverpool, with the Reds bringing in the striker following their relegation to the FA Women's Championship. She would score four goals in 21 appearances in all competitions, although it was not enough to help Liverpool return to the Barclays WSL at the first time of asking.

Thestrup joined PSV in the summer of 2021 and helped the Dutch side to a third-place finish in the Eredivisie last campaign.

At international level, Thestrup has four caps for Denmark. She made her debut for the national side in March 2019 against China in the Algarve Cup and earned her most recent cap in a 4-0 win away to Belgium in March 2020.

Everyone at West Ham United welcomes Amalie to the Club and wishes her every success for her career in Claret and Blue.
